The Pillars, in Plainfield, NJ, can be reached by car, cab, train, or bus, and several major highways. You will find us to be a wonderful hotel alternative and a convenient lodging option if you are going to or coming from the Newark Liberty International Airport.

If renting a car: Car rentals are available at every major airport. If you prefer to rent a car locally in Plainfield, Enterprise has a rental office directly across from the New Jersey Transit train station. When we confirm your booking, we can give you our corporate code, which will save a few dollars a day on your rental rate. Our corporate rate will also apply towards Enterprise rentals at airport locations.

If taking a cab: Most of our guests arriving by cab are coming from one of the airports, or Manhattan. Please provide the driving directions below to your driver. If there are any problems en route, please call us. We have helped many cab drivers find us!

From Brooklyn and Staten Island:

Take 440 South across the Outerbridge Crossing Bridge. After the Outerbridge Crossing, 440 South becomes I-287 North. Go approximately 10 miles to the DUNELLEN EXIT (#5) off of I-287. Take the right turn at the end of the exit ramp. Go 1/10 mile (second traffic light) and turn right onto New Brunswick Road. Go 2.5 miles till New Brunswick ends at 7th Street. Turn right on 7th. Go 1.7 miles (4 lights) to Central Avenue. (There is a large brick church with a tall white steeple on the far right corner). Turn right onto Central Avenue. Go 2 ½ blocks, past 9th Street and just beyond the bend in the road, to The Pillars, the third house on the right after 9th Street. The driveway is on the far side of the house. Please park in the back.

From Manhattan and Newark Airport:

Take I-78 west to EXIT 40 (Plainfield). Make a left turn at the end of the exit ramp onto Hillcrest Road ( County Road #531 South). It will take you down the side of a mountain. At the bottom of the hill, turn right. Almost immediately you are in a traffic circle. Go three-quarters of the way around, and make a right onto Somerset Street. (Follow the BLUE HOSPITAL ARROWS for Muhlenberg Hospital.) Proceed on Somerset towards Rt. 22. You cannot cross Rt. 22. As you approach Rt. 22, you will see the Hospital arrow and a sign for The Plainfields on the left, indicating a left turn for the overpass over Rt. 22. BE CAREFUL HERE so that you don't miss this turn. (If you DO miss the turn, go ahead and take Rt 22 and do a U-turn as soon as you can. Go east on Rt 22 to the CVS on the corner of Grove Street. Make a right onto Grove, and continue straight to The Pillars. Grove Street becomes Central Avenue.*) Continue across the overpass over Rt. 22 and turn left at the end of the ramp back onto Somerset Street. Go to the second traffic light and turn right onto Greenbrook Road. Go to the next traffic light and turn left onto Grove. Grove becomes Central as you enter Plainfield. *After going through the intersection with 7th Street, go 2 ½ blocks, past 9th Street and just beyond the bend in the road, to The Pillars, the third house on the right after 9th Street. The driveway is on the far side of the house. Please park in the back.

From the Northeast:

Take the New Jersey Turnpike or Garden State Parkway to I-78 West and follow the above directions from Manhattan.

From the Northwest:

Take I-78 to exit 40 and follow the above directions from Manhattan

From the Southeast:

Take I-287 north from the Garden State Parkway or the New Jersey Turnpike, and follow the above directions from Brooklyn/Staten Island

From the Southwest:

It looks inconvenient, but Expressways make it the least complicated and quickest. Go to either the Garden State Parkway or the New Jersey Turnpike, and follow the directions from the Southeast.

If coming by train, Plainfield and The Pillars can be reached by Amtrak at and New Jersey Transit. Schedules for both can be found online.

For New Jersey Transit, go to www.njtransit.com, and check the Raritan Valley line. We are the Plainfield stop. From the station, you can either walk (go to the 4th Street side with the large parking lot, exit the parking lot and turn right onto 4th Street, go 2.5 blocks to Central Avenue and turn left onto Central, go 5 blocks to The Pillars.) Or, you can take a local cab (5 minute ride, $4 fare.) Call us for cab service information.

For Amtrak, go to www.amtrak.com. The closest station is Metropark, in Edison. Take a cab to The Pillars (less than 15 minutes.) Cabs are usually available at the station, or call us for cab service information.

If coming by bus, go to the New Jersey Transit website (www.njtransit.com) and click on the Bus Schedule icon on the left. We are the Plainfield stop. Check with us once you have a schedule to find out where your bus stop is in relation to The Pillars, as different bus lines stop in different places in Plainfield.
