Whether you are traveling for business, touring New York City, visiting local relatives, or seeking a romantic getaway, our New Jersey bed and breakfast offers a warm welcome.
From the moment you step into the elegant front foyer of The Pillars, with a winding staircase that reaches up three stories to a stained glass skylight, we want you to feel at home. We are your hosts, Nancy and Lamont, and along with Misty, our Border Collie, we plan to treat you like family.

The Pillars of Plainfield, a beautifully restored 1870 Victorian mansion in the Van Wyck Brooks Historic District, offers a retreat from the fast-paced world, while still being conveniently located near many area attractions and transportation. Enjoy the amenities of hotel lodging, with the charm of a bed and breakfast. The Pillars is also the ideal place for your special events. From private afternoon teas, corporate meetings, and baby showers to family reunions and weddings, we will host your event in style.
The library is a warm and welcoming room. The wing chairs and ottomans by the fireplace encourage you to relax with a magazine, sip a glass of sherry with fellow guests, or go online on our guest computer to check e-mail. This is a wonderful room to meet other guests, or enjoy a quiet moment (ask us to build a fire for you in the winter).
The living room is bright, sunny, and always inviting. Our vintage furnishings are meant to be used. In the winter, this is a wonderful place to sit by the fire with the morning paper after breakfast. In warm weather, the etched glass French doors open to the shaded front porch. In the evening, gather around the 1870s pump organ, if you know how to play (we don't, but we love guest concerts!).
The morning sun makes the dining room a delightful place for breakfast. The dark mahogany furniture is offset by creamy lace curtains. We serve breakfast in two or three courses - always with plenty of hot coffee and a variety of teas, and encourage you to linger. Isn't a relaxed, indulgent breakfast half of what a bed and breakfast is all about?
So, rock away the evening on the front porch, stroll the gardens in the fresh morning light, watch the birds and squirrels mob the birdfeeder, and sit and stay a spell by the fire as part of the ever-widening circle of family at The Pillars.
